Stainless steels (a family of iron-based alloys with a high resistance to corrosion caused by: rust, liquids, gases and chemicals) have some physical properties that make it weld differently compared to mild steel. Lower melting temperatures and lower co- efficiency of thermal conductivity, as well as higher co-efficiency of thermal expansion and higher electrical resistance are some of the main differences one will find. Stainless steel can be welded using: SMAW, GTAW and GMAW.
